You should understand that, the reason why downgrading is a hardier task. It is because Apple devices are only able to install software which has been ‘signed off’ by Apple for originality.
This prompts the older versions to be marked invalid in a few days or weeks. To successfully downgrade therefore, you need to time very well because you can only do it when the version is still authorized by Apple as valid.
3 Steps How To Downgrade iOS
1. Do a back up
This is very important because you will not lose any form of data upon downgrading. When you carry out the downgrade process, you wipe out the entire data found in your device including your music, photos, and documents, saved games among other items and then restarts.
To avoid losing content, make sure you do a back-up so that after the whole process you can retrieve your items successfully.
2.Get iPhone or iPad software files
To be able to downgrade your system, you need an older IPSW file which is recognized by iOS as the previous version.
What is IPSW?
The IPSW is file extension. The file with this extension is an Apple devices software update file. It is used with iPad, iPod touch, iPhone and Apple TV devices.
This file can be found in saved on iTunes due to previous updates. If you have Mac device, you may find IPSW file in ~/Library/iTunes. But for Windows stores, you may find this file in the Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes Folder.
If you could not located your IPSW file, no worries. You can easily find and download it online from different sources, like IPSW downloads site.
The only thing required for you to download these files is to select the version you want to downgrade to and then download IPSW file for free.
3. Upload IPSW file to device
As the final step, you need to turn on iTunes and connect your device. Then you need to open your device’s page while in iTunes and select restore screen option.
This can be done easily using shortcuts where you can just click Option + Click for OS X or Shift + Click for Windows to enable you select the IPSW file you want instead of the device selecting the most recent one.
Here, you choose the IPSW file you downloaded in the previous step and start the restoration process.
Once you are done with this restoration process, you have successfully downgraded to the version of your choice!
The only thing remaining is for you to load the back-up data to the device to be able to use it again.
This process is not very complicated. But it needs some skills and knowledge of Apple devices, software such as iTunes among others to be able to successfully navigate through the process.
