Welcome to Independence Day 2 Movie!
Finally the go-ahead has been given for the filming of Independence Day 2. The release date is June 26, 2016 and filming will start in May 2015. It has been reported that Roland Emmerich, the director of the original movie, will also direct the sequel.
Independence Day was a huge box office success in 1996, when Will Smith took the leading role of Captain Steve Hillier. He may not appear in Independence Day 2 because last year Roland Emmerich told the New York Daily News that it would cost too much to hire him for the new movie. This is because the star is now one of the Hollywood elite who can earn as much as $20 for a movie role.
Director Roland Emmerich has stated that about half the characters who featured in the first movie will return, but the other characters will all be new roles. “Some aliens” the director has promised “will be back” for Independence Day 2.
The original Independence Day movie showed an invasion of earth by aliens in giant spacecraft. A team of survivors, led by Captain Steve Hillier, attempted to save the rest of the world by launching a counter-attack on the fourth of July, before the aliens could destroy the earth.
In the first week after its release the movie took a record breaking amount at the box office, beating a record that had previously been set by Jurassic Park. Around the world the movie went on to make $817.4 million and the outstanding visual effects won it an Oscar.
Independence Day 2 will be released just in time for Independence Day 2016. Many fans will have been waiting 20 years for a sequel, so this will major release is already generating a lot of speculation. It remains to be seen whether or not Captain Steve Hillier will once again be leading the battle against those earth-invading aliens.
